The Dun gene is another dilution gene. The Dun gene is identified by the dorsal stripe that runs down the horses back. There could be other identifiers such as tiger striping on the legs, shoulder barring, and face masks. These may or may not be present but the dorsal stripe is prominent and always present.
The Dun gene on a Chestnut is typically referred to as a Red Dun or Apricot Dun. A Bay Dun may or may not appear to be very Buckskin like in color. A Black Dun is generally referred to as a Grullo.
