So what are my expectations for Dream Catcher Ranch?! I'm interested in a horse that is athletic enough to seriously compete in the sport horse realm and/or working western realm, has spectacular color, and Arabian personality & style. "Does that horse even exist," you ask?! Not in any significant number!
This is a tall order but we are up to the task. We see this as a beginning to a long venture of producing athletic and competitive horses with extraordinary color and style. We are striving to produce sport horses, working western performance horses, and just all-around family horses that carry the dun, champagne, or cream genes, possess appaloosa / knabstrupper color, and who have Arabian personality and style.
I plan to use primarily Arabian, Appaloosa, and Thoroughbred blood to make beautiful, performance powerhouses. But I may also stray alittle with some Quarterhorse, Friesian, and Warmblood lines.
My love of the Arabian and Appaloosa has only recently been made real in the creation of Dream Catcher Ranch. I love the beautiful and majestic Arabian and the wildly colored Appaloosas for their purity, character, and endurance.
The Araloosa is the perfect combination of beauty and stamina. My goal with Dream Catcher Ranch will be to create my ideal type of competition and family horse with a bit of pizazz - the kind of horse that commands attention when it enters your sight and earns the respect it deserves for its chosen profession. A horse whose spirit inspires you, has the courage of a warrior, the will of a survivor, and the heart to love unconditionally.
ABOUT ME:
I was born in 1978 and I've had horses since 1992. I groomed horses and did work around the barn (feeding etc) for free lessons and board until I graduated high school. I attended the University of Arizona from '96 to '98 where I majored in Animal Sciences. I worked at the local dressage barn for board and trained a horse here and there. I also worked at the University breeding facility for nearly 2 years where I learned the fine art of stallion handling (Thoroughbreds), sales prepping, artificial insemination, foaling, etc. In January '99, I transfered to Auburn University where I recieved my Bachelors in Animal & Dairy Sciences in Aug '00. I also recieved my commission in the United States Marine Corps and off I went to Quatico, VA for 6 months. I taught lessons to beginner and intermediate child and adult english riders for most of the 6 months. In early 2001, I left for Camp Lejeune, NC where I stayed until May 2005. I spent 2 months in Spain in 2002, 6.5 months in Kuwait and Iraq in 2003, and 8 months in Iraq in 2004 and 2005, but I trained people and horses in between deployments. I ended up in Lawton, OK in May 2005 while stationed at Fort Sill in a non-deployable billet. Needless to say, I had way too much time on my hands to grow my herd to nearly 10 horses. After owning 4 stallions, I found that I really didn't have enough time, nor the proper facilities for a stallion so I sold all but one and he is on lease to someone who does have the facilities and time for him. While having way too much time on my hands to scheme over horses, I somehow managed to earn my Masters degree in International Diplomacy: Conflict Resolution; I like to think I'm a well-rounded person but I think the truth is that I just don't know what I want to be when I grow up:) As of 1 Oct 2008, I am in Petersburg, VA attending a career course and taking the opportunity to refresh my dressage skills. I will only be in VA until March 2009, at which time I will move to Camp Pendleton, CA where I will be deployable once again. Hence the reason, the horses and family will be staying in Lawton, OK for the indefinite future.
